Flight Training

Missionaire's Pilot Training Program is designed to train individuals to be pilots on the mission field. We take you from where you are in your flying, to become a proficient pilot for the area of the world to which the Lord is leading you. Missionaire offers pilot training from the beginning with our Private Pilot Course. We also provide training for instrument, commercial, and multi-engine ratings. After you have the basic flying skills, we are able to teach you how to fly the airplane closer to its limits. This training involves short field practices, rough field techniques, soft field methods, runway clearing (ways to safely remove animals and people from your intended landing area), landings on curved runways, uphill and downhill landings, all with the aircraft fully loaded. At this point you will need to have a sense of where in the world the Lord is leading you to serve. Training will then be geared toward the specifics of navigation, climate, elevation and terrain, as well as cultural challenges within the area you have chosen.
Navigation -The type of
navigation training you will receive depends on where you will be flying.
An instrument rating within the Siberian region does little good as there
are no instrument aids. Most of the navigation is done by dead reckoning,
following a map.

Climate- Temperature, humidity, temperature changes....all have a great effect on the performance of an aircraft. Climate also affects the preparation for a flight. Training will be very different for Siberia compared to Indonesia.
Elevation- The higher the elevation, the less dense the air is, therefore the aircraft performance is decreased. Special training is provided if you will be flying from a high altitude airstrip.
Terrain- The terrain that
you will be flying over is one of the most important aspects of missions flying,
and is sometimes overlooked. We spend a great deal of time on terrain, since
it affects almost all other aspects of your training.

Culture- This is not thought of as an area for pilot training, but it can be an area of concern for some cultures. Most of the cultural aspects are taught in other areas of your training. For those who already have some experience, we perform an evaluation of your flying skills to find out where you are in your flying. We can then take you from that point and help you to achieve the skills you need for placement on the mission field.
